License Upgrade from ASG220 to Virtual Applicane ?

Hello!
We have full ASG220 license till 2014, box it self do not have warranty, next year we plan to step inside virtual world with vmware and all 15+ servers. Would be nice to do same with ASG, but is there some way to change our 10000 usd ASG hardware license to virtual license, so is there any chance to do it not paying again a lot of bucks ?

I had a similar query last year with astaro sales. At the time there was no direct license exchange, since the ASG220 is a device license with 'unlimited' users. They did offer a discount on purchasing new user licenses, but it was still a significant cost.

Hi, J., and welcome to the User BB!

One of the advantages of going virtual is that it's easier/cheaper to have compute and data redundancy to achieve higher uptime.

But, There are some real security advantages to having a standalone UTM device. Since there now is no extra licensing cost to have a "Hot Standby" 220, you might want to consider buying a second unit for that purpose.

Astaro doesn't have a way to "deactivate" a license, so they can't really do a "trade-in" of your old license. Another issue is the number of active IPs you have. The 100-IP software version is roughly the same cost as the 220 licensing.
