Version 8, bridging and throughput.

I have a few more questions before I take down my Astaro, lost my Internet, and have to restore back just to connect and get answers...

1. Does version 7 use both CPU's?
2. If not, does version 8 use both CPU's?
3. What is the practical throughput limit on a dual core processor? 2.1 GHZ I think.
4. Is there a known limit or driver limit on gforce or realteck NICs?
5. Is the throughput faster on version 8?
9. IF I bridge the FIOS router to my Astaro, do I need to do anything with their MAC's?
10. Any bridging advice/help before I take it off line?

My CPU usage is always low, but when I try to stream video on demand and surf the Internet, the Astaro cant seem to handle the amount of data. (35/35 +30 for video) The video on demand is using a different subnet that is not going through the proxy, but it still causes issues when I reload a web page. The VOD gets corrupted. I am starting to suspect that it is a throughput limitation on the Astaro. (Lost UDP packets)

I plan on doing all of this Monday...

3. need full hardware stats please.  Also which features do you have going?
4. No limit built in..but geforce and realtek nics are not true hardware nics...but usually you wont have issues because of that.  intel/broadcom nics are best.
5. depends on your hardware and which features you are using
9. fios routers can be problematic with moving large amounts of connections(not necessarily data)....search the forums for several tips on using astaro and fios.
10. search the forums for fios tips....

in terms of packet loss i'm not sure it is an astaro issue per se.  If your hardware is weak or you have too much being run on the astaro then this would cause issues.

i'll take a guess with your dropped UDP packets. Search in your ips logfile for flooding related drops. If you have activated flooding protection, disabling ( or setting threshold values higher) may help...

If it's basically working, I also would exclude Hardware as guilty component in first guess...for these few MBits of traffic...

I have a dual core AMD (BE-3500?) 45 watt 2.1 GHZ processor with 2 Gigs of RAM. These are running on a Gigabyte M61PME-S2P motherboard.

I will be switching to two dual Intel 1000/NIC for my NICs.

I have gone over the tips and tricks, but they are not helping. This issue only started a few months after Frontier took over for Verizon. I may suggest they give me a free second ONT just for my video feed...

As for UDP flooding, I have that unchecked. My suspicion is that the Astaro input is getting overwhelmed, and is dropping UDP packets because it can. (Maybe TCP as well, but who would know that without looking?) Captures at the input side of Astaro (Before the firewall) look good. It is after-words that seems to have an issue. I should try to capture packets before and after... and compare them. I will have to think about the best way to go about that...

I tried QOS for anything going to the subnet for the FIOS router, but that really did nothing. 

I am hoping that if I bridge the router to Astaro, I will get my VOD feed without issue and that Astaro will still see all the probes and attacks on my network. I use this for school. 

I plan on trying this bridging out tomorrow.

I have added the dual NIC and set one of the ports up as a Frontier Router only network. Once I set the Masquerading up (Frontier network --> External (WAN) and setup a firewall rule to let the Frontier network out to the Internet I was able to fix 99.8% of my VOD issues. I also setup a block in the firewall that kept the Frontier network from going to my internal network. The firewall rule to block was not needed to make it work, just to keep Frontier off my network.
