I'm really new in Astaro and I successfully installed ASG 2-3 times on different machines. Despites the prerequirements say that you need a 1,5GHZ processor I usually can say that 1GHZ can be enough (in small environments).
So I wanted to install ASG 8 on old hardware (1000MHZ Pentium 3). It is not possible to change the motherboard of that case because it is non-ATX
and I want to use that platform because it usually runs stable, has a tiny case and does not need much power.
The CD boots but if you push return the cd loads a bit and then you will get a 'double fault' error. According to my wikipedia researches this error is very seldom and
is ONLY produced by a kernel error. It does not change anything if i boot up with any parameters.
Then I changed RAM and CD-Rom - same error. But when I changed the 1000MHZ P3 to a 700MHZ P3 (yes far away from reliable - I know) I get a triple fault - which causes in restart of the computer. I triple fault can also be executed when driver problems occur (Wikipedia writes). Any idea how to check if a driver (which driver) triggers the problem (in case the kernel is not the problem)?
As this seems to be a (very seldom) bug of the Linux kernel could you tell me which Linux kernel is currently used in the actual Astaro ASG 8? Is it still 2.6x or 3.x? Does Astaro use any kernel patch?
Maybe I can try to patch the kernel (even though I will be unable to get support from Astaro then). Or maybe somebody has another idea how to handle that. I guess Astaro is still based on Suse (Is that correct?). Could you tell me on which Suse Linux precisely? I will then try if the error occures with a Suse installation, too.
