Bridging vs DMZ

I am wondering about using bridging to solve my FIOS VOD disruption of video when surfing the net issue.  I did not have this issue under Verizon, but it now appears under Frontier.

My current setup goes like this:

Internet ---> Astaro WAN port --> LAN port out ---> 24 port HP Pro Curve Gigabit switch --> Frontier Router. 

Using this current setup causes issues with VOD, even a refresh of a small pages causes stuttering and lost packets. I have "bypass the proxy for streaming content" checked, and the Frontier Router network is not proxied at all. It is on the same physical card, but has a different subnet then everything else in my network.

So, what I want to do is place the Frontier router in front of the Astaro so that VOD never even touches my equipment, but make it so that all other traffic, hacker scans, and what not goes to the Astaro. I uses this information for school and other things.  

Is it best to bridge the two or should I DMZ the Astaro?
What else am I going to have to do?

What do you guys think?

    I would recommend going to dslreports.com and there, go to the verizon fios board.  There is an FAQ about the several different options for addressing what you want to do, including pros and cons.

    I am going to bridge the router and put in front of the Astaro and that will let the other traffic go the Astaro, and eliminate the Astaro as being the issue. If it does not fix the issue, then it is the ISP. If it does, it is the Astaro. 

    After that I will check out dslreports.com

    quick question: have you tried disabling the web proxy altogether?  be interesting to see if that fixes it...

    The streaming video is fine so long as I do not surf or download. I did disable the proxy, which does break the stream, but the results were the same.

    Have you turned on QoS?  I've seen the download equalizer mess up streaming video.

    I have added the dual NIC and set one of the ports up as a Frontier Router only network. Once I set the Masquerading up (Frontier network --> External (WAN) and setup a firewall rule to let the Frontier network out to the Internet I was able to fix 99.8% of my VOD issues. I also setup a block in the firewall that kept the Frontier network from going to my internal network. The firewall rule to block was not needed to make it work, just to keep Frontier off my network.
