If you get regular Up2Dates and pattern updatess automatically, then I would think the auto-update to V8 would work. I'm recommending to my clients with Mail Security that they wait until 8.203 because of a change in the RDNS/HELO behavior. Everything else is good from what I see.

Ok, then RAM isn't the issue. I would suggest doing the reboot, the upload the u2d package for 7.511 first. Then we can go from there.
Worst case scenario would be to make a new config-backup, save it off to a workstation, then reinstall from ISO (8.103 would be your best bet at the moment), then upload and apply the config-backup. The process will take you around 20 minutes. Then you can decide to stay on 8.103 for awhile or continue to update to 8.202.

If there was a bad upload, you need to go to the command line and delete it first. Only then can you get the new one in under the correct name that allows it to be seen.
