ASL 8.103 -> 8.202 = dead ASL

Well, I've really haven't had a good experience with ASL 8.2xx

After having been burned with 8.200/1 and waiting for 8.202 to be released and some more time, I decided to upgrade my ASL 8.103 (lab) to the latest release.

Unfortunately, once the VM rebooted, ASL failed to start. Completely: it gets through GRUB, then display the astaro screen and... nothing. Hitting F2 gets me to the text boot, tries to initialize VMBUS and simply hangs there.

I'm in the process of reinstalling a 8.202 (hopefully, I'll be able to reload the backup) but, in all frankness, i'm getting really realy tired of this crap. And until I can get a stable version running in lab, there is no way I'm going to upgrade my 3 commecial installs.

Anyone has a suggestion about what has crapped up this time ?

It's running inside a Hyper-V (2008 R2) VM.

    From my experience, astaro hasn't done enought to fully support ASG running as a hyper-v guest.

    The driver they have used for the nics are the ones from pre sp1 and are therefore outdated.

    i have just recently been trying to get my home gateway running on hyper-v, but got sick of it crashing and dropping the wan connection.  Have now gone back to physical hardware.

    As for running this as a hyper-v guest in a commercial environment, I personally wouldn't as I don't think it has been tested and developed enough to be classed as stable.

    Fulgan, have you had your reseller open a support ticket with Astaro?

    Thank you both.

    I'm not running it in production: it's the firewall for my VMLab. Unfortunately, I also use it for testing new releases (given how... interesting new ASL versions are these days) and if it's not working, I'm not updating my production hosts (which are running on hardware).

    No, I haven't opened a ticket: last time I had an issue, Astaro reps told me that, since this is the only ASL I have that is NOT running on a commercial license, they can't help me (I have platinum support for the other installs, this one is on "home" license since it's only a test system).

    The good news is that a fresh install seems to be working fine. The bad news is that the problem seems to be in the system update and that's going to make it really problematic for me: my 3 production systems are on different site, one some 2000km away from home base. Not exactly ideal to perform a reinstall...
