Moving ASG220 to 320

Hopefully just taking the backup from the 220 and applying it to the 320 will work? The 220 is still on v7.511 and the 320 came with v8 loaded

If you're still on Classic licensing for the 220, you'll want to update the license to the new type so that you wind up with an Essential Firewall when the present license expires.  That also should insulate you from any problems V8 might have with the old licensing. beofore you install the new license for the new 320.

Which version of V8 - 8.103?  If you go up to 8.2, and you're using Mail Security, you need to be ready to whitelist domains that don't have rDNS set up correctly.  Prior to 8.2, the rDNS testing was less demanding.

Although it's not possible to copy the logs and reporting over to the new box, there's no licensing required to keep the old box running with its existing logs.

Once you're certain that you have the new 320 working, before you disconnect the old 220, change the IP for "Internal (Address)" to one that's available.  Then, you can login on the new IP to disable all notifications, backups, etc.  Now you can just leave it online to examine old logs if needed.

It should work fine, but to minimize potential issues, I would suggest either updating the 220 to the same version as the 320, then getting the migration config-backup.  Alternately, you can install 7.5x onto the 320 from ISO.  The point being that you will be more likely to have a smoother transition with both boxes being at the same version number at the time of migration, especially when there are major differences between the versions, such as 7.5x to 8.x.

The only potential "gotcha" is that if the new box has the same IP address as the old box, LAN switches may take a while to update their ARP cache.  If you have managed switches, you can speed this process up by manually clearing the ARP cache.  If you are using "dumb" switches, a power cycle will fix it.

As far a log files go, you can download any log files you wish to keep off of the 220.

I wouldn't have thought of the ARP cache until after the switch - we're running Cisco 3750's so we'll have to clear those manually

If the 220 is a 512MB version, it won't be possible to Up2Date it past 7.511.  I thought about the downgrade of the 320, and definitely would be ready to do that at the first sign of trouble.

The original rev.1 320 came with 1GB RAM, but that was when the 220 only had 512MB.  Ever since then, the 320 has shipped with 2GB.

Good to know, in both website and datasheet there are no info about ram and cpu... (but you can discover the weight! [[[:D]]][[[:D]]][[[:D]]])
