ASG Home 8.202 / ESX5i networking help

Hello

I am trying to get Astaro networking working on my existing ESXi system.  My goal is to use ASG behind my existing wired router to get some of the usage logging and reporting about my home network (I have a few family and friends that use it frequently).

What I would like to do is insert ASG like this:

  • Hi, Mk, and welcome to the User BB!

From your diagram, it appears that you have two interfaces connected to the same network - is that right?  That can't work.

Normally, the prescription for a wireless router is to turn off its DHCP server, tape over its WAN port and put it behind the Astaro to serve as a wireless switch.  Among the things you lose when you run the Astaro in bridge mode is the ability to do Quality of Service.  Using IPsec (includes L2TP and Cisco) Remote Access when the Astaro is NATted behind a router also is difficult if not impossible.

    Cheers - Bob

  • Also.. make sure you used E1000 emulated NICs for your installation.
