From a technical view: Upgrading Memory is - depending on the hardware revision - mostly possible From a legal view: It's prohibited to open / modify the Appliance. You may loose support or hardware guarantee.
modifying the hardware (as memory upgrades) *may* also lead to other side effects as, that the appliance type may not be recognized correctly after updates / new installation and will refuse the appliance licence. I also understand Astaro Support, that they can not troublehoot additional issues that may happen as unreproduceable crashes or soemthing else that might be caused by defective or wrong 3rd party memory modules or other modified hardware (as SSD disks or Flash cards or whatever...)
For that reason Astaro also offers Software and Virtual Appliances, which are - compared to hardware appliances - licenced by Users / IPs, but officially allows to choose a own base hardware as needed.
