So I finally decided to bite the bullet and cloned my ASG vm to try out the new 8.2xx version. Under 8.103 my external interface has no problems grabbing an IP from the DSL modem. Under 8.201 however I get the following error messages approx every 5-6 minutes:
2011:09:02-23:00:34 firewall dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 4
2011:09:02-23:00:38 firewall dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8
2011:09:02-23:00:46 firewall dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 12
2011:09:02-23:00:58 firewall dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 16
2011:09:02-23:01:05 firewall dns-resolver[6026]: DNS server failed to contact!
2011:09:02-23:01:14 firewall dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 17
2011:09:02-23:01:31 firewall dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 4
2011:09:02-23:01:35 firewall dhclient: No DHCPOFFERS received.
I've rebooted the ASG vm with no luck and reverting back to a cloned 8.103 vm (working spare for just this reason [;)]) brings everything back up. I've tried disabling and re-enabling the external interface, also with no joy.
As an aside, disabling/enabling the external interface in 8.201 pops up the following warning: "Do you really want to change the IP address of the interface used for the current WebAdmin session? This WebAdmin session will fail, and you have to log in to the new address." Funny thing is I'm disabling the external interface, not the internal one so the IP address doesn't change. In any event it does kill the session and I have to re-login to webadmin. [:S]
