License for Next Generation Firewall

Hi Astaros,

on CeBit and everytime after, anyone of you i asked said that there is no extra subscription to buy, to use the "Next Generation Firewall" Feature - and now i have to buy WebSecurity Subscription ??????
You said that NG Firewall is useable with Packetfilter and without any Proxyservice. So why should i buy the WebProxy Service the Virusscan and the Contentfilter even if i dont use it ???
Thats seems to be no good idea for me, why buying stuff i didnt need ??

    the reason behind that one is that, the older IM/P2P functionality, that detected IM and P2P apps based on a L7 Engine was part of the Web Security Subscription. 
    The NGFW functionality is an improved L7 engine that can now detect more than IM/P2P apps, yet it is kinda obvious that it stays licensed the same way. 

    i hope that is understandable,

    I'm confused.

    In 8.102, IM/P2P is listed under Web Security, but I can turn it on.

    In 7.509, I cannot enable it.

    Neither fw has the IM/P2P or Web Sec license sub (I just double-checked, btw).

    Barry, at its' introduction (way back), IM/P2P filtering was part of the base license (this is before the "new model" was used)...shortly after the IM/P2P feature was introduced (I think within 6 months or so, but this was years ago, so my memory is "fuzzy"), Astaro elected to move that feature under the Web Security Subscription "umbrella."  What they did at that time was grandfather anyone in who had IM/P2P as part of the base license before they made the change... so having the equivalent of Network Security included IM/P2P for those licenses.  If one bought a license after the cutoff, they did not get IM/P2P as part of the base license (there was a grace period of a few months or so as they made this change).

    I imagine the differences in your case are due to the different original purchase dates on the licenses.

    ISTM that the licensing status page in webmin could make this clearer.

    BTW, is AFCD being replaced by a new process in 8.2? What is its name?

    Can't remember the process name, but afc is no more in 8.2
