ASUS M4N68T-M V2 compatibility

I am trying to install ASG either 7.5, 8.0 or the latest release 8.1 on an ASUS system motherboard M4N68T-M V2 with a low powered AMD Athlon II X2 240E AM3 CPU.  ASG 7.5 and 8.1 crash on "hardware detect" during installation.  I got 8.0 to install once but it did not seem to quite finish the process through it rebooted OK.  The PCI networkcards were not recognised.   I am trying to install to an IDE drive.  None of the versions seem to like to install to a SATA disk. 

With the same system, I can install XP SP2 without any issues. 

Any advice?:[:S]

    I can assure you that it has nothing to do with SATA.  I would venture a guess that the problem may be the chipset on your motherboard, which would also cover hard drive and PCI control.  

    XP has many more drivers built-in and supports much more hardware in general than Astaro does.

    As a guideline, you can check the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List), https://support.astaro.com/support/index.php/Hardware:CompatibilityList , to see what hardware is and is not supported.  If it isn't on the HCL, then there's a good chance that it won't work (unless it's similar to something on the HCL and can use the same drivers as something that is).

    I took a look at the ASUS website and they don't even provide any Linux drivers, nor does NVidia.

    Scott,  Thanks for the comments - I am much the wiser.  I guess I just got lucky in the past with old PCs.  I have never had any issues with compatibility as I moved from ASG 6 -> 7 over the last 5-6 years.  Regards

    Just in case anyone is interested, I did get ASG 8.1 installed after a lot of trial and error.  For what its worth:
    1. Installed 2 new network cards that the blogs said were recognised by Linux
    2. Made the on-board NIC the Internal WebAdmin interface - Selecting any of the PCI NICs always resulted in installation failure
    3. Did NOT change the time setting presented by the installation menu - Doing so really created problems when the system was connected to the net - make sure the BIOS time setting is correct UTC before you install. 
    4. Used a 200 GB SATA disk. The system install process was unreliable when presented a 500 GB disk (maybe the brand - who knows). 
    5. Was able to install either the 64 bit kernel (or 32 bit kernel). 

    So the elcheepo ASUS motherboard and AMD cpu is a solution - save $$
