Hw: Jetway JNC9C-550-L

Hi everybody,

after running my ASG 7.5.x on an old DELL PIII Machine with 4 NICs and limited up to 512 MB RAM I'm thinking about buying new Hw for moving over to ASG 8.x.y.

Because I'm a little bit laizy and don't want to screw myself I looked out for a pre-built mini ITX board with case, power supply, etc.

Well, after searching and comparing for a while I found this equipment which will fulfill my needs:

Jetway JNC9C-550-LF with Jetway ADD-ON 3x GigaLAN 2 GB RAM and 40 GB SATA HDD. All things bundled and placed in a MHero-S-B Mini-ITX enclosure.

Well, the description on the sites mentioned above is in German, but the technical data are in English ;-) Here are some hard facts in short:

Mainboard:

CPU INTEL

Atom N550 CPU(45nm,512K Cache, 2x1.50 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
Chipset - INTEL

Atom N550 + NM10 chipset
- Build-in INTEL

GMA 3150 Graphics Core (DVMT max. 384MB)
- Front Side Bus 667MHz
Ethernet LAN 2x Realtek RTL8111E PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet LAN

Additional 3-Port-Nic-Card:

Jetway J2AD3RTLANG (Realtek Chips - no idea which one)

Well, my question is if anyone has experiences with this equipment. Better more has ASG 8.x.y successfully installed on it and is running it for a while.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hi garikoitz,

well, the new box is up and running V. 8.2.00 now and it works very well!

The installation/update and moving process is described in detail here.

Please let me make to remarks:

1. The fan in the system itself is extremly loud, more like a vacuum cleaner than like a mini PC. So I'll have to open the box and replace the built-in fan by a Papst temperature controlled one. I think there is no power management in the ASG software which would control fan speed etc.. And the small original boxes from Astaro are obviously fanless. Anyway, may be I'll come back to this point later.

2. The WLAN interface isn't detected/supported by ASG software (so far?). May be a fitting driver is missing. Anyway, I'm using an Access Point connected to one of the NICs. This solution has the advantage of being able to switch off WLAN-Access by a hardware "switch" located at the Access Point itself. The WLAN card was built-in and configuring a box especially built to my needs would have cost me more then taking this one as is (and not using it the WALN card).
