Upgrading/Replacing Software Appliance

I am FINALLY getting around to upgrading my Astaro box.  It's currently on 7.x, has a commercial license, and needs a bigger hard drive.  I'm essentially building a new server, and then I guess I will do a backup of the configuration from the old box, and restore it on the new?

During the initial setup of this box, I assume it makes no different what I call it, the IP address I use for it etc?  Will it just magically reconfigure when I restore?  Also, I have three network cards in both boxes, but they are not the same brand in both.  they are each named eth0, eth1 and eth2 though, so will they just bind properly to the new interfaces of the same name?

And lastly, does the license come across, or will I have to reinstall that?

    Hi,
    Yes to all questions except for the license.

    Put the backup file on a USB key, and insert it during boot up of the new system, and you don't need to worry about the IP addresses.

    You will of course need to figure out which NIC is which on the new server, best is to write down the MAC addresses on the new NICs; then you can run ifconfig and see which is which.

    Since you won't know which interface will be assigned to which NIC at first, I would suggest not having any ethernet cables connected at first until after you've applied the backup file.  Then you can use ifconfig from the console like Barry said, or if running headless (no monitor or keyboard), you can just try each NIC one by one connected to your LAN until you find which is your LAN interface to connect to WebAdmin.

    That was almost too simple!  My only beef continues to be that in this "upgrade" I must sacrifice history and the mail quarantine.  But I'm learning to deal with it - mostly.

    Now I'm hoping that since this ASG is upgraded, maybe some of my odd "failover/multipath" issues will resolve themselves (ongoing thread elsewhere).  If not I'll report back!
