ASG 8.102 ESXi shows wrong RAM size

Hi community [:)],

i have imported Astaro vSphere template (from vmware zip), but to my surprise it is installed with 32bit kernel and as a result it only show 3GB RAM.
VM is configured with 4GB RAM and 2 CPU-s.

Is there a 64bit version of ESXi template, or we have manual install it from cd to get support for more RAM?

It is placed on IBM 3650 M3 with 64GB RAM and dual quads.

    32Bit Version of ASG supports something around 3,x GB of Memory (32Bit Limit). Reinstall the ASG from iso and choose while installation the x64 Version of ASG

    Good ESXi Template for ASG Installation is "Other 2.6 Linux System (64 Bit)"

    My recommendation:
    Use e1000 NICs and change the SCSI controller in the VM to LSI Logic SAS - will perform best in my eyes


    You were right. I just have installed asg from iso and it supports 4GB RAM.
    For now, current setup works ok with 3GB RAM but when astaro releases 64bit vsphere virtual appliance we will surelly switch to it.

    No need to switch to a downloadable VM, the Softwareversion also includes all required drivers and VMWare tools. The downloadableVM´s are only prepackaged Softwareversions, which have in my eyes some drawbacks as:

    - Disksize cannot be choosen to own requirements
    - No SMP (Multicore) Kernel preinstalled
    - Actually only 32bit Versions available
    - Switch to other NIC types is not always possible without issues

    AFAIK these prepackaged VM Appliances has to be done for VMWare certification. I always recommend to install productive Virtual Machines from scratch with the iso

    Go on with the Softwareversion - it will make you completely happy - there are no benefits from switching to a prepackaged VM [;)]
