Network card question

Hi all,

i plan to install my Astaro soon, i found all the parts i want to a good price but i still have a question regarding the network card.

i have 2 possibilities :

- using the ethernet card on the motherboard + an intel network card giga bytes 
- uing the ethernet card on the motherboard + an intel quad ports giga bytes server card.

in fact i would like to know if Astaro ASG 8 can handle mutliple Lan on a same network card ? i mean 

can i set 2 lan like 192.168.3.x/24 and 192.168.2.x/24 if i have only 1 network card for my internal lan  ?

or do i have to use an ethernet port for each lan ?

    Hi,

    yes you can, but keep in Mind, this solution is only a logical separation. That means the clients on the different subnets gets broadcast messages and could speak with the other LANs if they are configured to do so circumventing the frewall.
    If you have only 1 switch for both LANs, there's no difference between the two methods. Except you have a switch which can manage VLAN
    If you want a physical separation you have to take 2 nics and 2 switches for the different LANs.

    Hi Saur and thanks for you reply.

    In fact it's for home usage and if i need to subnet it's not really for lan separation it's more for proxy rules like this i can setup my daughter lan for specific proxy rules and my lan for full access. i know that if i'm using user authentication or proxy i won't have this problem but i want it to run completely silently. 

    but for this i will post in another topic 

    my concern here is only network lan .... so i guess i will do 1 network adapter with 2 LAN on it i don't really care of physical or logical separation [[:)]] 

    th question for the 2 different network card was only for the choice of the motherboard.

    so i will go for the Intel D510MO [[:)]] and 1 extra network card with 1 ethernet port 

    tell me if what i saying sounds logic or not [:D]
