Okay - so this particular ASG is 7.509. I really need to upgrade it to 8, but I've just not had the time, and until now it's not been an issue.
For a couple of years we've had both cable (Comcast) and DSL (private ISP who just went out of business) set to Uplink Failover mode. Since the private ISP went out of business, I have contacted QWest (who of course always supplied the line) and have had them become the DSL provider. I've confirmed that I can plug my Macbook directly into the modem, use the PPPoE settings, and connect with no problems to the new QWEST service.
When I connect the ASG into the modem, however, the activity lights don't even blink (they go crazy when I plug in the Macbook, and connect immediately). I'm sure it's something simple that I've not configured yet, but being a total newbee at PPPoE I don't even know where to start.
As I say, this is 7.509, and if I need to bite the bullet and upgrade the server I will, but I don't think this will have changed much between versions (maybe I'm misguided there though).
So, right now I have the username and password entered, MTU is 1492, and I've toggled the vdsl and gw boxes a few times wondering if they needed to be set.
And to make matters more complicated, this will change to a static IP address after I phone QWest and request it, but I'm reluctant to do that until I can confirm that everything is working DHCP.
So, what have I totally missed?
