Can't access WebAdmin after install-Dell Optiplex

Newbie problem- [:S]
I just installed on a Dell Optiplex GTX260 that meets specs and added a Realtek NIC which is seen on install. Followed the defaults and rebooted to login prompt and then tried connecting from a Dell XP laptop, Mac, and W7-64 but I can't connect via browser from any machine. Tried a new cable, switched NIC's on Optiplex, reinstalled but reversed the NIC selection to connect to network- I get nothing. I see nothing in the Optiplex BIOS that seems relevant to change.
Am I supposed to log in on the Optiplex after the post install reboot first?
If so, what am I logging in as and what is the password?

I have internet access with the onboard and Realtek NIC via booting a Live linux cd.

    hi jamc,

    since the system is blank installed try to login with root and no password - if the password is not set through the webadmin there's no password - alternativly try 'admin' oder 'loginuser' (i think it's loginuser, because root login through ssh is not allowed and admin only works in webadmin)

    just to be sure: your login url to webadmin is https://x.x.x.x:4444 - right? don't forget the 's' for https and the port after your ip

    Thanks for your response. My problem was not having the network settings correct on the pc I was using to access WebAdmin. The next problem was being unable to send emails but that was setting the ports in the email program correctly- one email address was sending the others were not, so switched the others to match the working email ports and all was well.
    I now have an old AT&T modem set as a bridge and two W7_64 machines and two Macs running perfectly- so far so good, but many hours of tweaking fun to go! [:D]
