Active / Passive failover is "free"... to do clustering, you will need to purchase the subscriptions for the other device (duplicate them).  There is also an option, under the new licensing model, to have your existing subscription time remaining reduced in half (or more, depending on how many cluster nodes you have), but enabling the cluster feature instead.

However, I do not recommend configuring an active/active cluster with an ASG110/120 appliance... there's just not enough computing power there to make that a sensible thing to do.  Active / Passive (standby), not a bad idea, and that's at no additional cost.

I'm not sure why, if a single 110/120 is "more then enough," you need a cluster (active/active) over a simple failover setup (active/passive)?

Usually I understood Active/Active to be used where a single instance of a specific model ASG was insufficiently powerful to handle the load *and* you wanted some form of High Availability. Example, You could purchase three ASG 220's in a cluster for less then a redundant pair of 320's or 420's.

Active/Passive is useful where a single unit is enough to handle the load but you want redundancy "just in case."

In our case we went with Active/Passive on because while a single 120 is enough to protect our offices, they're spread out over a 4hr (driving time) radius from Head Office and 4-5hr downtime is not acceptable in our line of work.

We've tested the failover from one ASG to another and it's seamless. We had several active RDP sessions running over IPSEC tunnels and some audio streaming happening during one test and aside from a small blip in the audio, nobody noticed the cut over.

I do not recommend active/active clusters on these small appliances.  however, if you want to do this, you just need your reseller to sell you another term of each subscription that is licensed on your existing (main) appliance.  Once they enter that into the Astaro Licensing Portal, they can convert the license to a cluster license quite easily.  If your reseller does not understand how to do this, ask them to contact their Astaro Channel Rep -- they can certainly walk them through it.
