ASG8001 on VMWare Player and esxi - no access to webadmin

I installed the virtual ASG 8001 appliance with VMWare player and esxi 3.5, but I can't get to the webadmin page.
Let's stay with the (more simple) VMWare player setup:
- I opened the VM as instructed in the "ASG V8 Virtual Appliance Readme.pdf" file.
- I changed the IP address of the "VMnet8 network adapter" on the same PC as instructed to 192.168.0.2
- After that I suppose I should be able to access https://192.168.0.1:4444 ?

Unfortunately that is not happening. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this ?
