ASG 8 Install Problem

Hi all!

Home system with v.7 running fine but having trouble with the installation of v.8 on the same hardware.  A message is like this appears on the main screen:

BAR 6: address space collision on of device 0xfd800000

Later, during the process of checking for disk space, the system hangs.  The console indicates a problem locating the hard drive.

My config:
Optical drive on IDE
HD on SATA (set in BIOS to IDE)

Any suggestion?

    Three things that I would check for:
    1) Bad disk burn. Check the MD5 checksum on the iso you downloaded to make certain that there was no corruption, then burn the disk using the slowest speed your burner supports.
     
    2) Check that your hardware is supported for V8 on the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List). V8 comes with a new kernel that supports more hardware than V7, but support may have been dropped for legacy components.
     
    3) Does your system support the minimum recommended hardware for V8. The biggest part of this seems to be 1GB memory. Some people here have been successful installing V8 to a system with 512MB memory, but I've never had it work for me.
     
    Edit: Did a little bit of googling on this error message and appears to be a conflict on the PCI bus seen in recents Linux kernels. If the things above don't help, you may want to try shuffling cards around in your PCI/PCI-E slots and see if it helps.  Also try reseating cards and cables in your system to make certain that they are making good contact.

    I should have mentioned that I had previously tried all of the checks that you've indicated.  As a test, I even tried USE 10.10:  It installs without a glitch.  But your last bit is giving me an idea: I'll try re-installing with a minimal number of NICs (currently running 4 NICs) to see if I can get any further.
