Home Ed. Up2Date "Dry run"

Hi,

Running the 8.003 Home Edition and it was enabled with automatic pattern downloads. However it kept saying for days that the patterns were up to date without changing pattern number.
So I switched to manual mode and suddently there was updates..

Problem is, when I try to install them manually nothing happens and the log says :

I've seen some forum entries about this, but not I am not sure if any of those threads presented a sollution ?

    Yeah, that's the issue. Basically what I've found is that most of the pattern updates are updates to either clam or avira and since you have them disabled the system doesn't update them.  Therefore, while in manual mode it may say that you are a few updates behind, you really aren't.  To test it out, try turning on clam and avira (dual scan mode) and then check for updates.  It should find some and then update those systems.  If you disable clam and avira again, you'll find that you will be a few updates behind after a while, but those are just updates to clam and avira so you should be fine.

    I figured it would be something like that.

    It's just misleading that the "info" on the pattern update page claims that antivirus and IPS patterns can't be updated in manual mode for security reasons - but it still reports updates for things that arent enabled.

    In the end, it's ok as long as you know whats going on.
