appliance cost

We are currently using ASG software license on our own hardware in main office. I am thinking of getting an appliance (eg: ASG320) for our upcoming branch office. What's the cost structure for the astaro appliances? Do I pay a bit higher yearly subscription to lease the hardware and software? or do I pay upfront for the hardware, thus owning it, and then pay the same software license cost as if I am running on my own hardware? I am thinking about 100 User license for the branch office.

    Hi, for hardware appliances, you buy the appliance, including the first year of maintenance, and then renew each year.

    I don't see a 100 User license for appliance (at least for ASG320). I guess it is always unlimited?

    Yes, appliance licenses are for unlimited users.  This can mean that licensing may be more expensive than your used to for a 100 user software license.
     
    A particular reseller lists all of their prices at Astaro Internet Security | Astaro Mail Gateway | Astaro Security Gateway | Astaro Web Gateway | AstaroGuard.com .  I know nothing of this reseller and am not recommending whether or not to purchase from this source.  I am only posting the site as a general price comparison tool.  
     
    Resellers are often given deals to pass onto customers, so like Barry said, check with your reseller to find out about any current incentives.

    This is a User BB.  Except for the beta forums, anyone from Astaro that comes here does so as an individual - no one is paid to visit or help here.  By the same token, several of us resellers spend time here, but we all respect the fact that this is for users.  Barry knows that a reseller can be expected to help you make a good choice in terms of licensing, hardware and appliances, and that was the reason for his suggestion.  Astaro only sells through resellers, so asking the reseller to make a recommendation means you have someone with skin in the game.

    Thanks all for the help! It is indeed that the appliance may not be a good choice for us since we only need 100 user license while appliance provides unlimited (meaning more expensive annual cost). BTW, I did a google search of "astaro price list" and the first search result gives a PDF file with pretty good price, seems cheaper than the reseller Scott listed.
