High Availability Function

Hi,

I was going to have a play with the HA function built into ASG appliances.

I have read the setup guide, and have a couple quick question about the function.

Does the network cable that links the two devices together have to be a crossover cable or could I use two normal cables and a switch I have knocking about??

Also, what functions are available with the home license?? Is it just the hot backup function or are all the functions available eg clustering, active/active.

Forgot to mention, but I am running v8.001 on on old desktop pc at the moment

Hi Andy,

regarding the cable, this depends on your the NICs you are using. If the cluster link has on both sides gigabit, than you should use a standard ethernet cable. If you are using two Fast Ethernet NICs, than please use a cross-over cable, or if not available, a small switch.

The Home use license should come with High availability, but if you participate in the beta testing, like currently for 8.100, than you can receive a power home use license which includes active/active clustering up to three nodes.
If you plan to use that, i heavily recommend using gigabit ethernet for the clusterlinks.
