Appliance Upgrade to V8 Fails with L2TP+DHCP

Hi everyone,

There is a bug in Version 8.000-8.003 regarding L2TP with DHCP. If you are planning to use Version 8, either with the appliance upgrade button or an ISO install + restore of your backup file, this configuration will cause problems. You also should not push the one-touch upgrade button if you use L2TP with DHCP in V7.

The middleware will crash and restart in a cycle. If you have already moved to V8 and are experiencing this bug, Astaro support can help you by disabling the DHCP assignment and/or using the pool instead for L2TP. 

We have already fixed this bug in the 8.100 Beta, and will shortly publish a fix as 8.004, which will also be the new landing version for the appliance upgrade process.

    Just to clarify.  Is this only a problem with the upgrade process?  In other words, if you have already implemented 8.000-8.003, and subsequently elect to enable L2TP with DHCP, should that work OK?

    And what's the current ETA for the rollout of 8.004?

    8.004 will be out as soon as our QA can go through the necessary processes, i don't have a firm ETA yet. As this bug doesn't have a huge impact install-base wise, its not ultra-severe, but we are treating it as fast as we can regardless. The bug is present in non-upgraders, if you enable lt2p and then assign dhcp over it, you will likely get looping middleware. The fact that it has been almost 5 months since v8 and it hasn't been reported or noticed until now shows just how few will be affected.

    We just decided to err on the side of caution and inform everyone, even at the slight expense of causing unnecessary concern by many who aren't affected.

    What possible reason is there to use DHCP with L2TP?
