Question about Passive HA

Hello, 
I have an ASG220. I know I could buy another unit in order to create a HA group in passive mode, without pay other subscriptions. In this case, the second hardware has to be another 220, or can I use also a software version of ASG?

    You can't install the 220 software in a VM.  Your license only will work in a 220.  I think the barriers are too high.

    I think what eclipse was asking was if a software appliance could be used as the slave in an Active/Passive HA config.

    I'm going to hazard a guess of no as the license has to be transferable from master to slave and HW & SW ASG's have incompatible licenses.

    The answer is no; to use HA with an Astaro ASG Appliance, you have to use appliances that match...  You can not use software installations or lesser, or greater, ASG appliances as slave nodes, or additional active/active cluster nodes, with an ASG Appliance.

    A final question about the ha passive: if I buy a new ASG 220 it will be a rev.4, now I have a rev.3, it's possible in this situation to establish a passive/active HA?

    eclipse, the answer is "yes". As long as the model name is the same (ASG  220, ASG 320...) you can put the ASGs into a HA or A/A cluster. The  hardware revision doesn´t matter. Of course, you will probably want to  have the rev.4 machine to be the master of the HA setup. YOu can achieve  this with the "preferred master" setting when configuring the HA.
