64-bit on ASG220

Hi Guys,

Used the CD image for the appliance to update a client's Astaro ASG220 (hardware revision 2), to 8.002 (or whatever the most recent stable version is).

Anyways, I was told by support that these units support 64-bit. I've installed ASG on my own equipment before and it gave me the option, however noticed that the install was fairly automated on the ASG220 using the cd.

After booting, did a uname -a and noticed that it was using a i686 kernel (it also said i686 on the LCD).

Does the rev. 2 unit really support 64-bit? BIOS POST said it was a Pentium 4. If so, why didn't it install the 64-bit kernel?

Thanks!

  • Considering that there's no advantage to using 64 bit unless you are using 4GB of RAM (and ASG220s currently ship with 1GB), not sure why it's an issue.  I wouldn't worry about it.
