7.x upgrade

So, is it my understanding that if you DO NOT have the appliance, you will not be able to do a in place upgrade from version 7 to version 8? Is this on the horizon?

If you don't have an appliance, you must do a clean installation and restore your configuration from an backup. There will NEVER be an direct upgrade!
