virtualize Astaro Firewall

Hi,

we want to virtualize our ASG 7 (7.505) with VMWare. 

Our main reasons to do that are:

- Failsafety (we have an 2nd ESX and Raid 5)
- Integration to one Hardwareplatform

Are there any reasons against virtualization? In case there are reasons against this: Why do Astaro offers an ISO-File to do that? [:S]

Also: Are there other reasons to virtualize an ASG 7?

    By virtualizing any O/S (including ASG) you get the following benefits:
    -Better resource utilization (CPU,MEM,HDD,NICS)
    -VM snapshots can safeguard your update procedures
    -VM cloning is fast and easy
    -VM restore is easier and H/W independed
    -VM allows you to quickly setup testing environments

    Currently I have Astaro 7.507 on vmware esx4 with vsphere.
    My only heads up for you is what do you use for your wan connection?

    I created a vlan for my dsl modem and made sure both ports (vm nic and dsl modem ) were in the same vlan. That works perfect. 

    Cable modem wise I cannot get it to work yet.

    Also you may have route issue. Just a heads up.. You may need to add a static route to get your main interface in asg to see the networks.
