So this has been this way for a while now, ever since version 8 was out and I upgraded. I had a heck of a time with getting the license installed but finally after messing with it for a few days I got it to work. However, it's not been quite right since.... It seems to say it's both version 7 and version 8. It's working and doing what it's supposed to (or so it seems) but something's just not quite right with the license. I'm going to be getting a much faster internet connection in a week or so and would like to get this squared away before that. I have some screen shots below showing what I mean:
Hi, let us tackle the easy bit first. The labels, somebody forgot to change the displayed version on one of the pages. I am in a similar situation because I had customised my ASG before the licensing rules for home users changed, so my ASG displays on one page ASG v7b.
Your first licence is an "Essentials" licence which has minimal functionality enabled. It is aimed at businesses as a try before buy without worrying about licence costs. The basic security facilities only. Even though the heading says home user the body says "essentials" and that is the facilities your licence provided.
You haven't stated what problems you has had installing your first licence. Basically it goes in and you get packet filter, NTP, DNS, DHCP, reporting but manual distribution. You get the ability to send e-mail warning messages and possibly some other bits I can't remember without looking at the ASG at work.
Your fresh licence is the correct version fro a home user, but appears to have hit a date bug in the licensing page that I thought had been fixed. Maybe it was only fixed for commercial licences. The but being the issue date is the date after you applied for it. Did you attempt to apply this licence on the 8th of October 2010?
If it's just as simply as someone forgetting to change the labels then that's fine, I will accept that as an answer. I guess since it's only me and the wifey that use it I won't worry about the version, I just thought something was wrong with it.
Looks like I posted the wrong screenshot with the OP. Yes, you are correct, that is the home license I am currently. I'm still at a bit of a loss though as to when a brand new home license would tell me that the Web Security (and all the other things that the home license is supposed to give you) is disabled. I attempted to create and apply this license last night, so 10/9/2010.
Maybe it's just my paranoia that cause me to post in the first place. I just want to make sure things are in order with the box before I get my new internet connection in a week or so. Thanks again for your reply!

one final point, have you restarted the ASG after your upgrade. I find occasionally I need to restart my ASG after upgrading because somethings don't always work as planned.

And I said upgrade but it really was a fresh install of 8. When I attempted to upgrade to 8 from my 7.5 install it nutted the box up and I had to rebuild it from scratch. That being said, it has been rebooted, yes. I installed 8 shortly after it came out so a few months ago.
I'm still curious why a brand new home license though still wouldn't apply properly...oh well.
Hi, there isn't an upgrade from 7.5 to 8. A fresh install is required. Part the way through the v8b a new licensing process/style was released so the old 7.4 licences won't work in v8.
