Problems w/ Serial & Basic System Setup

I'm installing ASG for the first time. The install appears to finish correctly, however when the system starts up, it beeps a few times and I get a message about mgetty respawning too quickly and refers to ttySL0 or ttySL1. It seems like this refers to serial ports on the board, I have the serial ports disabled in BIOS.

When I log in to the webadmin, I get the "Perform Basic System Setup" dialog. I fill in my information, but when I click the "Perform Basic System Setup" button, it sits there and does nothing and won't progress beyond that. The button greys out for a few seconds and then activates again.

I tried with IE7, IE8, and Firefox, thinking maybe it was a browser issue. I also tried on three separate client machines. It seems to me that the two problems must be linked.

I've also reinstalled the system a number of times.

I'm running an Athlon Sempron 64, plenty of RAM, and an Asus micro-ATX board.

Do any bright minds have a place for me to start troubleshooting this?

    Only thing off the top is to try enabling the serial ports again and see what happens. I've seen errors like this before on other machines (not Astaro's) impact services higher up in the food chain so they may well be related.

    this sounds very much like the 'y2k38 issue': Software error in old Astaro versions - update required
    Did you perhaps use version 8.000? If so, try installing 8.001.

    I downloaded the latest iso (the one I used was a month or two old) and that solved my problem with the "basic system setup" hanging. I was able to complete it. However I don't think I'm going to be able to use astaro because the interface for publishing virtual servers is a little clumsy.

    I was able get sites published off my windows web server, but I kept getting proxy error screens when trying to do the same thing with my linux web server.

    I have like maybe 5 sites hosted on windows, and 2 hosts on linux. The only way I could get publishing to function, was to specify the destination in the publishing rule to include a dns host with the host header name of the site, and then make a static dns rule in astaro. Otherwise, publishing to the address would just bring up the site with *:80 as its binding in IIS.

    The same thing happened in apache on linux. Either it brought up *:80 or it redirected to a proxy error page.

    I'm unhappy with how clunky that is, especially for a business product. What I currently use is much smoother, so I think I'm going to stick with that until I find a better option (I'm unhappy with my current hardware for other reasons).
