CPU pegged at 100% if pattern and firmware update enabled

If I enable firmware and pattern updates, it peggs the CPU at 100% for hours. Taking a look at the processes, httpproxy is using 90%+ of the cpu. Disabling firmware and pattern updates resolves the problem. 
ASG220 2GB ram 
never hits the swap 
data disk is at 10% 
Two wan connections and one lan and none of them are anywhere close to maxed out. 
I was forced to disable web content filtering on another of my astaro boxes yesterday because of massive latency issues. 
My other 2 boxes (120 and 220) are running fine at this time.  All together I have two 220's two 120's and one software installation. Out of the 5 boxes only two are having issues. All are on 7.507

    Hi, how many users and how big are your connections or how much traffic is passing?
    Which features are you using besides Content Filtering? e.g. SMTP proxy, IPS, ...

    On the 220 in question, I have around 20 users on at any given time.  I have a full T1 and a cable modem at 3 meg down and 1 up.

    Yesterday Traffic was:
    Traffic processed:  2.7 GB
    Connections Handled:  135 547 

    This is average for what we do and hasn't been a problem in the past. I attached a screen shot of the dashboard.

    If you're doing caching in the http proxy, clearing the cache _might_ help, but I'd recommend opening a support ticket.

    I tried clearing the cache and disabling it completely but no joy. I don't believe it's actually a problem with the appliance but haven't been able to pin down what the issue is. As you can see by the screen shot, traffic is minimal while cpu is 100%. That's what has me wondering. There is no way the classification servers are that slow so it has to be something else.

    yes it CAN be the classification servers...   I would look to a failing hdd or a corrupted install.  I would try to reboot...if that doesn't work then backup the configs and reload then restore then reboot.

    Hi William, I know the classification servers can cause latency/slow browsing, but would that consume the CPU on the firewall?

    if the pattern he's getting are corrupted then yeah which is why i was thinking about the bad hdd...

    HOwever it seems more like a software corruption..again could be a bad hdd which is why i suggested the format/reinstall/recover route.

    Well, I was looking at Version 8 and I do have to work this weekend anyway.  I have a feeling that reloading it will resolve the issue so I'm just going to do that and spinrite the HD.
