VMWare, Wireless, and Astaro :D

Good Morning, well for me it is. [[[:D]]]


Anyways, I know astaro fairly well when it comes to standalone servers, but I am kinda new to astaro on VMWare. What I would like to do, is get my wireless nic to act as the external (WAN) on astaro. Basicly, what I am trying to do is make a Astaro server on my Laptop and have my Laptop behind my astaro server. [[[:D]]]

I am really just experimenting, and seeing if this is possible.

Currently where I am, we don't have hard lines, so I need to be able to pick up an IP from the DHCP server on the Wireless NIC. 

Using Vmware Server 2 on Win7 64.

    Well, I think I have found my solution to my Mobile Astaro Setup.

    ASUS WL330GE

    This wireless to wired WAP is the perfect piece to the puzzle.

    If anyone else has any other suggestions, plz let me know. [:D]

    Please post what VMWare you're using and your setup if you get it working. I've been thinking about doing some VMWare tests too. I use VSphere at work but can't afford that for home use.

    Will do, waiting on the part to come in.

    But for now I am using the lastest VMWare server for windows.

    I do have ESXi 3.5 and 4 at home, but my goal is to test mobility.

    edit: Forgot to tell you I am running both Astaro 7.507 and 8 VMWare images. I am going with v8, but I wanted to make sure I got the v7 down for the folks who don't want to go v8 yet.

    Alright good Sir, got some great news for you.

    I have gotten this project to work wonders.

    Ok, here is how this goes. First you need to buy a Asus WL330gE or Similar device, I currently have it set as an adapter so I can use the WiFi as a wired connection. Astaro picked up the DHCP server from the 330gE like a champ, and I am accessing the net with the Microsoft Loopback NIC that is connected to astaro's Internal NIC. [:D]
    I am testing Site to Site VPN with SSL and L2TP here in a moment. I will let you know the out come of this.

    But for the most part it works, if you have a Gaming Laptop or a laptop with 4gb or more of Ram, this becomes a great mobile firewall, to connect at home, or at work. 

    More testing to come.
