install freezes

Trying to install home version 8.001 on an eMachine T4852 which has more than enough horse power and it freezes.   As it's formatting the hard drive, a gray screen comes up and the last item showing is

[] ? start_kernel+0x28b/0x28e

Also, the Caps lock and Scroll lock are flashing on the keyboard.  

I also trying installing v7.5.  It was able to copy all the files, then during the installation of files, it froze and did nothing.  I've tried downloading all the software numerous times and burning cds at a slow rate.  The end result is the same.  I have no idea where to go from here.

    Hi, sounds like a hardware problem; can you try running MemTest86 or similar?

    Ran MemTest86 with no problems.  I noticed the hardware scan was showing two CPU's, so I turned off the hyper threading and it made it through formatting this time and base setup and copy packages.  Then it about 50% through step 5 of the install of the apps ends with an error.  I thought I was home free, but Murphy strikes again.    Everything looked good until ....

    I was able to determine that my problems was in fact the hard drive.  I just now got everything installed and rebooted.  New error

    INIT: version 2.86 booting
    INIT: no inittab file found
    Enter runlevel:

    I see another post just came up with the same error.  Any ideas?

    Problem solved.  The software did not like my motherboard or disk controller, so I rebuilt another pc and it loaded first try.  I was using a stock eMachines t4852 with only the addition of more memory.   Do not use!!  Here are the specs on it:

    This may be just a shot in the dark. But based on my experience with e-machines, it is most likely a BIOS incompatibility.
