Maybe faulty pattern - Do not reboot!

Hey everyone,

sorry about the double-post, but imho this important enough to be on the mainpage.

There seems to be an actual issue regarding a faulty pattern.

The information I got:
If your box is making some trouble, do not reboot.

After a reboot the hardware appliance may hang with a haldaemon-failure, without any interface showing up.....

If you ran into this issue, here the "official workaround":

please do the following steps to bring back the system:

plug a monitor and keyboard to the system

login via root on commandline

If the directories do not exist and there is no connectivity:

  mkdir /opt
  mkdir /opt/inst
  mkdir /opt/tmpfs
  mkdir /opt/tmpfs/run
  mkdir /opt/gnome
  mkdir /opt/gnome/lib
  mount /opt/inst
  rpm -Uvh glib2****** --force (aus /opt/inst)


cp /var/storage/chroot-pop3/usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 /usr/lib/

cp /var/storage/chroot-pop3/usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0 /usr/lib/

Afterwards list all available system backups:

backup.plx –l

choose the lastest backupfile! Excecute the following command:

backup.plx –i /var/confd/var/storage/snapshots/cfg_*****[/SIZE]

Astaro seems to work on this issue, a "repairing pattern-update" will come soon.

    I REALLY have no words. I have been offline for hours, after I had problems with http proxy. Now it seems to work. 

    Angelo Comazzetto what says about this issue, not far from the other faulty pattern? Is Astaro becoming unreliable?

    I have a scheduled up2date to 7.507 (from 7.504 or 7.505) tomorrow morning; does this mean I need to hold off?

    What unfortunate timing. I was about to do an up2date upgrade on a couple of clients boxes this afternoon..

    Can someone please post when it is safe to do so. Hopefully this weekend.

    Or better yet, what versions to avoid?

    thanks for this info...now,it is 10:30pm, and i can go homeeee, asg220 problem solved, but i waste 4h :-( i thought that asg nic-ports are brocken...

    i remember, a few weeks ago astaro had some problems with update-pattern....hmmmmm

    According to Alan Toews, this problem was resolved 8.5 hours ago.

    Astaro Support Engineer Timothy Cronin emailed me that restarting confd now will resolve the problem for anyone that still has it.

    Just wanted to say hi from the Data Center where we've spent five hours trying to get our Firewall (and 23 servers) back online after a reboot this afternoon.

    We've reinstalled Astaro 7 and have experienced so many different problems tonight before reading this thread. How about informing your customers about problems like this that are VERY important.

    This is our second multi-hour downtime in the last months where Astaro Patterns have broken our installation, it's not acceptable. Our customers will be seeking compensation for this and we've nowhere to go.

    After using Astaro since 2004 you've really dropped the ball on this. We are really careful about updating our firewalls from now on. 

    My wife is at home wondering why i'm spending hours in a data center far away from home... [:(]

    Is below which I received 2 hours ago the Fixed Version and everything is fine now?

    New Pattern Up2Dates have been installed. The current pattern version
    is now 20027.

    Please refer to the manual for detailed instructions.

    Up2Date 7.20 package description:

    RPM packages contained:

    Bob since you are a partner and a moderator, could you please make this thread or https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/52/t/27616 a sticky so we can look at a single thread.

    Also could you please elaborate a little more on your conversation with Alan Toews. I have up2date turned off for now till I hear a go ahead from you. 

    Also is this caused by "ohelpng" update and what exactly is ohelpng?

    Well, when the recent pattern update issue occurred, I posted a request: Astaro Support should send SMS alert in case of high urgency warnings

    In my opinion Astaro should send an SMS for high urgency warnings!
