In the research of finding the best MTU solution I decided to try every firewall/threat solutions that the free market offers nowadays.
It is not for business use but just for my home network security.
After testing various solutions under virtualized environment I realized that the best product for me its ASG V8 Home Edition.
It works very well, good,usable and web 2.0 compliant interface, I really like it.
Worked like a charm on virtual machine with two NIC bridged to real cards (under Sun/Oracle Virtualbox v3.x).
As we well know, under Virtualbox the driver used for the virtual card could be Intel Pro 1000 Desktop Ethernet Card, well supported by ASG V8.
The bad feelings came when I tried to install on a dedicated machine.
The installation doesnt like the NIC interface* (*more info after machine characteristics).
Some informations:
CPU: Intel Atom 230 1.6Ghz
Motherboard: ECS 945GCT-D V.1.1
Integrated NIC Interface: Attansic L2 Ethernet Card (detected in the installation log but not working)
On PCI Slot: Realtek 8139 Ethernet 10/100 (detected and working)
HD1: EIDE 10GB 7200RPM
HD2: SATA1 120GB 7200RPM
PSU: Integrated 120W
Temporary DVD Reader Driver for installation of the ASG.
Detailed description
The installation starts and works fine till ethernet interface detection came up.
The Attansic NIC isn't detected by the setup, so the system has ipotetically just one NIC, so the is pretty useless, and the installation notice it with a message.
Hitting ALT+F4 show me more information about the problem, here it is:
Bootstrap: Interface (Attansic L2 100Mbit Ethernet Adapter) ignored because it lacks a name (buggy hw?)
The card as you can see its detected but setup ignore it because it lacks a name?
The good thing, in my humble opinion, its the setup detects it but for some reason (maybe driver related) it is ignored.
Looking around the net I discovered that driver name is atl2 (atl1 is previous generation of cards i think).
So I decided to check some things...

What can I do to make it works?
Recompiling kernel module is very difficult I think, with no compilator and any dedicated software installed and package manager.
Is it really a driver-related buggy card and I have to go for another one?
My purpose is to have a 3 NIC machine: WAN interface, LAN, and DMZ.
Having already used a PCI slot I have last PCI-Xpress empty slot and it would be the third card, if the Atheros was working.
I want test it on home environment with the intention to buy in the future a business solution.
Sorry if I wrote too long message (and made any mistakes and typos) but I think the best way to solve this kind of problems is to be more detailed as possible.
