License expires, e-mail delivery stops?

We had an Astaro license expire overnight on V.8.000, and e-mail delivery stopped when it did.  We renewed the license and installed it, and e-mail delivery immediately started again.

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but in earlier Astaro versions, didn't e-mail delivery continue even if the license expired?  It's just that the "protections" weren't in effect?

    And a note to everyone...  There's no advantage in waiting to renew; renewal liceses extend the license expiration to the same date regardless of when you install the renewal.
