Hi, how much bandwidth would you be using?

I have a single-core Atom (with hyperthreading) and the IPS + Traffic Classifier use about 20% of the CPU if I push 14mbps through it.

HTTP A/V Scanning, etc., would use even more CPU.

We are looking at combining two 4MB/1MB connections (the best our Costa Rican providers can muster, cost effectively that is (1/2 the cost of our 512KB DSL connection!)), so no where near that much traffic.  I'm not sure that I would be implementing A/V at this level or filtering, I'm more interested in basic firewalling with loadbalancing/failover and QoS for some (not much) VoIP traffic.  Not anticipating a lot of growth in the office, either in terms

Should be fine... the Atom 510 has 2 cores, so it's about twice as fast as mine, and also is faster than the Astaro 120 appliance, which can handle about that many users.

Those Intel 82574L NICs are the same as in my Atom system, so they should work in Astaro 7.5 and 8.0.

The only question would be if the SATA controller is supported in 7.5, but it should be in 8.0.
Note that the software RAID would not be usable in Astaro; you'd only be able to use one HD.

Just wondering whether anyone is using this motherboard (Atom D510, 2GB ram) in a small office-type environment (~15 users) with multiple ISP connections (both cable, different providers) or whether this configuration is capable of working in this type of environment?  Recommendation on the NIC's as to whether these would work or ??

If not a good idea, any suggestions for a similar (looking at a 1U 'mini' rack mount setup (shallow depth - ~14"-16")?

We're running Astaro v.8 on Intel D510 boards /w 4Gb RAM in some smaller situations.  This setup doesn't take much power.  We're not running the SMTP proxy, but we are running most everything else.  Seems to keep up just fine.  I've not noticed any slowdowns, and we're not getting any complaints.  These sites have some decent cable connection speeds - 7Mb up / 25Mb dn, and support a reasonable amount of traffic.  Note that due to hardware and O/S, only 3.3Gb RAM is used in 32bit environments.  I haven't been tracking the RAM usage, but then again, RAM is pretty inexpensive.  One of these days we'll take these small boxes to 64bit, running Astaro v.8 and use all 4Gb. [:$]

Barry is one of the Kings of Knowledge when it comes to these small Astaro boxes.  His advice is worth listening too...
