Core-ix / Q57 / Socket 1156

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using v7.5x or V8 on a Core-i3/5 Clarksdale core based system. I would be installing it on a Intel Q57 board.

I was just ready to order a new system to install ASG 7.5 on and low any behold, the reseller just ran out of the board I was going to use.

My original specs were going to be as followed:

CPU= Intel Pentium E6700 - 3.2GHz Dual Core - 2MB L2 Cache - 64bit - VT
Motherboard= Intel BOXDQ45CB - Q45 chipset - VT - Intel NIC
RAM= 4GB (2x2GB) Kingston DDR2 800
HDD= Seagate ES2 250GB SATA/300
NIC= 2x Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/100/1000 PCI-E x1

But since the the motherboard is sold out, I had the thought of "why not go CORE-i"

The new specs I am looking at are as follows:

CPU= Intel Core-i3-530 2.93GHz Dual Core Clarksdale - 4MB L3 Cache - 64bit - VT
Motherboard= Intel BOXDQ57TM - Q57 chipset - VT - Intel NIC
RAM= 4GB (2x2GB) Kingston DDR3 1333
HDD= Seagate ES2 250GB SATA/300 - *SAME*
NIC= 2x Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/100/1000 PCI-E x1 - *SAME*

The Design Ideas were:
1: Future proofing with some room to grow, horsepower wise.
2: v7.5x AND v8 compatible. v8 still has some work to do to be totally reliable.
3: Reliability and longevity. Fairly low wattage and cost point.
4: ESXi v4 compatibility just in case of needed future expansion.

My concerns are that since my original specs were designed on older proven hardware, I could be confident that the hardware was supported. Yet the clarksdale platform i.e. integrated video, memory controller, etc. is such a change from previous intel designs I do not have much confidence in the compatibility.

The available HCLs on the web, official or non-official are rather outdated and do not lend much assistance for purchases with currently available hardware.

Any input or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    The Corei3 rig is running well. CPU usage hovers around eh 0%, RAM @ 9% approx. 400MB.
    Have noticed a small problem with the USB being intermittent that is connected to the APC UPS. I believe this is a known issue on this board and I should see a BIOS update soon to resolve it.

    @X-cimo, the Core i3 rig is using a Supermicro SC731i-300B Micro-ATX server chassis. I really like it.  It comes with a good server class 300w Active-PFC quiet PS, a quiet 120mm exhaust fan and I added a quiet Scythe S-Flex 80mm front intake fan. The server closet is Extremely hot, so I wanted as much air flow and  heat disapation space in the chassis as I could get without it sound like a vacuum cleaner. It also looks very professional, like a server, so the appearance to the client doesn't say "Hey look at me, I'm just a cheap toy!" and it matches the two new Supermicro servers I installed 8 months ago.

     @JohnW@MoxieDatum, I too am about to build a D510MO rig for my father in law. I was going to use the Antec NSK 1380  I have used in the past, and have really liked them. I recall that the first versions of the Mini-Box M350's did not offer a PCI riser, which is why i haven't used them. But they do now. I am considering using it now for this build with a Pico-PSU { always wanted to try one [:)] }. Please start a new thread or I can, for our D510MO builds so we can both report our experiences for the group.

     I also am going to be using a Kingston SSD to test my theory in regards to system responsiveness, see https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/52/t/27374 for further info.
