ASG 7.5 & 8 Home bandwidth Limitation?

I have tried running ASG 7.5 and 8 for a few weeks and it is a GREAT product! However I am seeing a MAX throughput of around 32mbps, when I have a 100mbps internet connection and can get 80mbps using smoothwall. 

I was wondering if anyone knows is this a limitation in the home edition, my hardware or some config issue perhaps?

    Hi,
    there is no limit on throughput for home licencs.

    Please describe your hardware.

    A test to try is use a Packet filter rule rather than the http proxy for the speed download test. Also try using to different sites at the same time.

    Astaro is running in a VM under ESXi on a Xeon 5520 Quad core cpu with 12GB ram on a server grade motherboard. The VM has allocated to it 4 Virtual CPU's and 2GB ram. The CPU and ram usage never even approaches 100%.

    I have tried using the ESX image as well as building my own VM using the ISO. I have tried with 7.500, 7.50x and 8.000. 

    It always seems to hit some threshold at 32mbps, and consistently no matter which site or how I try to test the throughput. 

    I dont use the HTTP proxy (As it is turned off) and when I do I get figures like 400mbps (Obviously because it is caching). I am using sites like speedtest.net to test the throughput, and when tested using smoothwall i get 70-80mbps, but with Astaro I get always 32mbps....

    Husky, try doing a download of a large file (over 100MB), and time it.  Does it download at 32mbps, or at full speed?

    I have tried doing that and I get a throughput between 25-32mbps....

    You can always try the free business edition. None of us have that kind of bandwidth at home[:(] so can't really test it for you.

    I wouldn't trust speedtest etc at these levels anyways. You can always put your firewall in your LAN and try to pull large files. V7 and V8 have totally different kernels so the exact same low speed is highly unlikely. It has something to do with your configuration.

    In the end, if smoothie is working for you, stick with it then.

    I can confirm there are no bandwidth limits in any version, we dont place glass ceilings like that. Try testing without IPS and/or IM, P2P filtering running, see if that helps your results. Usually the 2nd av engine can limit throughput a bit, run in single scan to use the avira engine only, as it is very fast and you dont get a huge amount of extra protection running dual scan vs. the performance cost.

    I have tried disabling all features, not using the web proxy or anti-virus at all and it doesnt seem to have any effect.... It's very frustrating as I REALLY would like to use Astaro, it is an excellent product, once you get your head around it...
