[8.000] - NIC sorting on Nexcom NSA 1125

Just installed the new release a few minutes ago...

The usage of udev in V8 seems to break my numeric Nic sorting: 'eth0' is now 'eth8'
Any supported way to get my familiar nic sorting back?

By the way...
I'm very happy that the version of Network UPS Tools was increased to 2.2.2!
Now my APC Backup CS 650 is working as expected. -thanks ASTARO

    Simple... go to /etc/udev/rules.d and edit the persistent net rules file.

    It's the only way currently.  In V8, it looks like the installer sets the rules file up... my guess is that the installer for the official ASG appliances (on which some of the interfaces are "out of order" in regards to MAC addresses assigned) detects which model it's being run on, and sets the UDEV file up during installation accordingly.  Why the OEM doesn't burn the MACs on the NIC chip to have them in the proper order, I'll never know. I have the same problem with custom appliances my company sells for certain situations.  Modifying the UDEV file is actually a bit cleaner than my old workaround (a rename script I had to add to the appliance).  It would be really cool if they would just add a bit to Webadmin so that admins can reorder interfaces and opt to have that order saved in the backup file.

    Hi BrucecKonvergent,

    the webadmin feature would be great. People would have to remember to do the changes at initial install time, because if like me you use vlan's and PPPoE, the webadmin gui is hard to get at once the backup is restored.

    Also for those people with many NICs trying to locate the active NIC during the initial phase will possibly be an issue.

    SO for the moment, my operations are all done from the console.
