failed to restore backup

Hi
i had my computer, where i was installing Astaro, crashing and when i tried to restore my backup , it didn't worked (there was a message about a syntax error ).
can you help me to find out why that happened ?
PS: when i made my backup,i had some update that i didn't have now today when i tried to restore the backup ?

Normally, if the backup is from 7.505, it will not restore to a unit running 7.504 or earlier.

Update your Astaro's firmware to the latest version first, then attempt the restore.

If you have a newer backup, you will need to update the ASG to at least the same version of ASG as the backup was taken from. If you are just one or two updates back, download the up2date package(s) from ftp://ftp.astaro.de/pub/ASG/v7/up2date/, upload them through WebAdmin, and update. After the post-update reboot, you'll be able to restore from the backup.

it was just that i didn't knew exactely witch update i had before, like that i will get the last backup and upload it.

The ASG version is included in the file name if you downloaded it from the ASG WebAdmin (e.g. astaro.mydomain.com_7.505_2010-06-26_01-15.abf) or the system version is included in the text of the email if you have automatic backups sent to you.

i would like to know if the back contain just the configurations and not the statistic about users and website visited ?

That is correct, the backup only includes configuration information. It does not include logs, reporting data, spooled/quarantined email, etc. as that could create enormous (therefore slow) backups.

There isn't an option in the system, but you can certainly grab a disk image with your favorite image tool (or just use dd).

we can't just copy the database file and when we reinstall ASG we just paste them , do that work(importing database files) ?

There are multiple databases in the system, and a myriad of logfiles, it is not as easy as simply copying a file or two. I'm sure it is possible, but I doubt that it is practical- and it would not be supported.

dd is a common Unix utility for duplicating volumes.

for this time it can't be helped cause i already reinstalled ASG, but like that i will take my precautions for the next time.
