ASG on Foxconn 45CTD

Hey guys, a few years ago I first came across Astaro and I was very impressed with it, but it was way out of my league and I don't recall ever seeing a home version of ASG.  A couple days ago, I decided to look into it again, and now I'm taking a shot at building my own gateway appliance.

I've done a good amount of research, but I've hit a roadblock.  Before I actually buy any components, I just want to make sure the compatibility of everything checks out with ASG.

The box I am looking at is this the Foxconn R30-S4.  It has an Intel Atom 330 dual core processor with HT, and I've read that ASG 7.5 supports it well. (Anyone care to confirm?  Any problems?)  The motherboard is a Foxconn 45CTD.

It comes with only one onboard ethernet adapter, but it has an available PCI expansion slot so I found a low profile Intel Pro/1000 GT with the 82541PI chipset to throw in it, which is on the official HCL.  My biggest concern is with regard to the integrated NIC.  The Foxconn site for the motherboard says the chipset is a Realtek RTL8101E, but I can't find any information about Astaro's compatibility with it.  The Newegg page for it says the NIC is a Realtek 8100C, and I read somewhere that someone has had no problems getting those to work.  Does anyone have any knowledge on this?

All I want is a fast and reliable router.  I'm not really concerned about gigabit support, since I don't see FiOS going above 100 Mbps (affordable) in the next 5 years.  Currently I have a 25/25 package, so as long as it can support that with full speed, I'll be satisfied.

EDIT: I just did some further research, and what I discovered is that Foxconn released a newer (?) version of this called the Foxconn R20-D2.  This features the D510 processor, which to my understanding is the exact same as the 330, just with less power consumption (correct me if I am wrong).  I think I read a day ago that someone else used this in their build, but I'd like confirmation on this.

Again, however, my biggest issue is with the integrated NIC.  On the R30-S4 (original post), it listed the chipset in the description.  I can't find it anywhere for the R20-D2.  The R20-D2 really looks like a better model, and it even comes with a NIC that supports gigabit, but it doesn't say anything else about it!  Help!

EDIT 2: I couldn't find this exact model on the Foxconn website, but I did find info for the R10-D2.  I downloaded the driver on their site for the NIC, and the file name is "Barebone_Rxx-Dxx_Driver_Lan.zip".  Inside of the title.txt file, there is one line of text that reads "ENG: "RTL81XX Series Network Adapter User's Guide"".

Does the Atom 330 perform better than the D510, or vice-versa?  Should I go for one over the other?  What are your thoughts?

    1. I have used ASG Home 7.x on my Intel D945GCLF2 / ATOM 330. It works well for my 15 system / 5 user network. You will have to compromise SOME modules to maintain to keep your browsing speed up to your connections throughput. I turned off Anti-Virus Scanning and Anti-Spam and it is working great.

    2. The Atom D510 is slightly faster than the Atom 330. Mostly due to it's integrated memory controller. As far as power, the D510 CPU takes slightly more wattage than the Atom 330 BUT the NM10 chipset the D510 is paired to takes significantly less power than the 945G the Atom 330 is paired to.

    3. I have been cruising around the forums and have been finding that some D510M0 users are having problems installing or getting the SMP to work with the D510 since it is so new. It is speculated that ASG 8 will fix this but since I do not have a D510 for testing yet, I could not confirm that for you.

    If you are going to go Atom I would go with the MSI Wind Board, It is a D510(new Atom) but it has all solid caps and active heatsink and both will have a major effect on longevity and reliability. Plus it is the same price as the Intel version.

    Also reports are saying that the Atoms perform much better in V8.
