Astaro ASG Hardware Update

Good afternoon,

I have some questions about ASTARO. In our organization we have an ASTARO with version 7011. Could we upgrade from version 7011 to 7402? There would be any problem?

In addition I would like to know if a RAM of 512 would support the version 7.5.

Thank you. Greetings,

  • Yes, you can and should update to newer versions.  There have been some feature enhancements and bug fixes between 7.011 and current (7.505).  If you use the up2date feature, you will have to install each update between then and now in order.  You may be better off backing up your config, reinstalling from 7.505 ISO, then restoring the config.

As far as the amount of RAM, the simple answer is it depends.  If all your using is http proxy, then you can get by with 512MB.  If you want to have all features enabled, then you'll want more RAM.

  • Hello again,

Thanks for your quick reply. If I have not understood it wrong, you said me that I have to install update for update or otherwise download the ISO v7.5 and install it from the beginning.
We have the model “ASG 220 Hardware Appliances”, and our problem is the RAM. Do you know where we could get RAM for this hardware? We don’t know if this hardware has some special feature.
All updates fails and none of them is installed. Will we have any problem in upgrade it from the ISO?  Is it better install it using a pendrive or a DVD?

    Thanks a lot. Greatings,
  • It depends on which ASG220 you have.  Contact your reseller; if you give them the serial number, they should be able to tell you what upgrade options you have (some units, the newer ones, can be upgraded to 1GB via simple RAM upgrade; older units do not support more than 512MB and have to be replaced).  If you have a reseller, do contact them.  If not, you can PM me your serial number and I'll be glad to help.

  • Also forgot to add; since you are that far behind with the Astaro Updates, I would probably just make a backup of the configuration, and reinstall from the latest SSI ISO.  It's easily installed via USB CD-ROM Drive.  Then i would restore the configuration.

If you are using any features in addition to the basic IPS / firewall functions, I highly recommend you get a unit running at least 1GB first... these latest releases require more memory to function well with optional features enabled.

  • Thank you so much for your reply.

Attach the serial number for PM.
