Minimum Disk Space Requirements: 12 or 20GB?

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking at installing Astaro 7.5 (which by all accounts looks pretty damn sweet!), however I am wanting to confirm what the minimum disk space requirements are as I have found 2 conflicting sizes; 12GB & 20GB.

Why do I care? I'm hoping to use an old 15GB SSD I picked up for free so that my firewall is A) Quiet, and B) Reliable.

So if anyone can enlighten me as to the minimum / recommended space requirements (& what may increase this), I would be most appreciative!

i wouldn't use the ssd with ask 7.x as hte multitude of small writes it does will degrade the performance of the drive. I would go with the smallest hdd until v8 comes out.

Naa, won't be a problem as the drive uses wear-leveling to mitigate this. In any case, I'd still like to know the min space requirements.

this has nothing to do with wear leveling.  There are several things about SSD's folks need to understand.

for the full skinny read the article form the beginning.  Older ssd's do NOT have built in routines for "garbage collection" and this leads to the ssd's performance tanking over time.  Environments with lots of tiny writes really can cause ssd's an issue.

Ah yes, the old 'Trim' issue eh? Yes I am aware of the potential pitfalls of that one, thanks.
