Initial installation challenges

I'm new to Astaro and unfortunately am only growing my networking knowledge very slowly so this may be a simple problem but it has me stumped.  I'm hoping someone on here can help me figure this out...

I'll start with explaining what I'm trying to set up.

I have a Comcast cable modem who's address is setup with DynDNS.  I have a LinkSys wireless router (not used for DNS or DHCP).  I have a Windows 2003 Server that is my Domain Controller, DNS, and DHCP server.

I'm trying to figure out how to connect all this stuff together properly...

I've got Astaro installed and connect to it on the internal card (192.168.1.100) but when I try and plug it between the modem and the router everything times out.

I'm plugging the cable from the modem into the external NIC and then the internal NIC into the "Internet" port on the router.  Is that wrong?

In Astaro I've set up the DynDNS entry and have the internal NIC configured to 192.168.1.100 and can connect to it when it's just sat on my network as another PC.  I haven't configured anything else for the External NIC, should I?

Really hoping someone can help!

    The Astaro box can replace the router(Does not have to) so you will use the old router as a switch, just plug Astaro 'internal' into one of the 'lan' ports of the old router.
     
    The external interface should be set up as per your connection, aka DHCP if you do not have a static IP address(most likely).
     
    My comcast modem will not issue a new address when plugged into another card(new mac address), I have to unplug the unit for a few seconds and then reboot it. 
     
    If you have phone service and the modem has battery backup you may have to remove the battery when you unplug it.
     
    After you are able to reach the Astaro box via Webadmin, you can go to Network

    No, I don't want it to replace my Router as that's what serves up my wireless network...  so if I can just have Astaro plugged into an internal LAN port, does that mean I keep the modem plugged straight into the Router?

    If so, is there some sort of test I can perform to make sure Astaro is filtering properly if it's inline with my other devices rather than hard-wired between the internal and external networks?

    When I look at the External NIC it says it's "up" and has an external IP address and something is providing DHCP to it, just not sure what!?!?  I have a W2K server that could be, or it's Astaro itself?

    You can still use the 'router' for wireless.
