Do I need to re-install, if I change the MB? (Free Home edition)

Hello;
I've had Astaro now for a couple of months, and still learning my way through it. I've installed on a dual core Intel (a few years old system), and so far served me well. In the same time, my shared PC for occasional internet browsing is running on a socket A Athlon XP 2500+, and, while it is fairly ok for regular tasks, it is pretty slow compared with my work notebook (a dell latitude 6400).
So.. I'd like to swap the Athlon for the Intel, swap the cards etc. and use the Intel machine for home Pc. Can I just swap the hard drives, or I have to reinstall Astaro again from scratch? If I have to re-install, is there anyway to port all the configurations, exceptions etc. from one installation to another?
(for windows I found a procedure to do this kind of swapping).
Any suggestions are much appreciated.

    Hi, HG, and welcome to Astaro!

    You likely will need to reinstall.  Astaro is not a plug-and-play system; only the necessary drivers are loaded when you install.

    Astaro has a great configuration backup and restore system (does not include report or log files nor any email in quarantine).  In WebAdmin, go to 'Management >> Backup/Restore'.  You should set up automatic backups and have them emailed to you.  I like to be deep in backups, so I suggest that you download several of the backups already there.

    Now, to transfer your existing setup, create a new backup and download an unencrypted copy of it onto a USB memory stick.  After you have reloaded the Astaro system from CDROM, reboot the unit with the USB memory stick in place.  The Astaro will restore from your backup.  It is important that the new system have at least as many network interfaces as your present system.

    Hi,
    Note you may need to do up2date on the new system to the latest version before you can restore the backups; they won't always install on older versions.
    e.g. the current CD ISO is 7.502, but the current up2date is 7.504.

    Try it - linux usually has no problems with hardware changes.

    If not, backup, reinstall, restore is relatively painless.

    Just in case you have issues with restoring the backup, take a couple screen shots of the various WebAdmin tabs you have specifically configured.

    In particular, the Network Services>Packet Filter screen and the Network Services>NAT>Masq & DNAT/SNAT screens.  If you're still new to how ASG works, at least the info on these tabs should get you back online quickly (and save you the time of having to look up how to configure these from scratch).

    FYI, Astaro won't re-detect the NICs if they've changed.
