The GuruPlug Server (GuruPlug Server) draws GuruPlug Server Features

I'd love to buy one of these to run Astaro on, but I'm not sure if it would be compatible (specifically, with the so-called Sheeva CPU Core).  The unit can apparently run Linux Kernel 2.6.32 natively.

    Hi, the 'Sheeva' CPU appears to be an ARM derivative, so it won't run Astaro, which requires a fully x686 compatible CPU.

    Low-power options for Astaro include modern VIA CPUs, and Intel Atoms.
    The Atom seems to give the best bang for the buck currently. Boards start at $79, and complete systems can be built which run under 20 watts.
    See my signature below for a low-power Atom system, or look at the recent Intel motherboards for cheaper options (with a PCI NIC installed as the secondary NIC).

    fit-pc.com has a fit-PC2i model with 2 gigE NICs and claims 8 watts peak. afaik no one has tried one on Astaro though, and their site doesn't seem to specify the NIC chipset(s).

    There are some other Atom appliances, one with 4 or 5 NICs, but as it didn't have a VGA port, installation would be extremely difficult.

    Yeah, I've had my eye on the Fit-PC2i for a while.  However, it appears that the dual NICs are Realtek-based, and as far as I know, Realtek NICs are not supported, correct?

    Many Realtek NICs are supported; they may not be on the official HCL, but many users here are running them.
    I don't know if VLANs work on them.
    Apparently the only GigE Realtek known to work is the RTL8111.

    There's a brief discussion of the fit pc at

    which says it has the "RTL8111 E" NICs; if so, it _might_ work. It's not clear to me if the 8111 driver supports all versions such as 'E'.

    BTW, Astaro 8 will reportedly have better hardware support; there's a public beta coming out in a couple months.

    Hmm... Fit PC's web site says they're sold out of of the pc2i model, and doesn't seem to have pricing.

    Great news about ASG 8 and improved hardware support!

    I'll be very interested to see if the Fit-PC2i works with Astaro.
