Hey, everyone...
As a client of mine has been plagued recently with terrible power outages (lasting several hours), I decided I could no longer be so lax about setting up UPS monitoring on all of the servers (I used to be a real stickler for that stuff, but have gotten lazy in my old age).
The network connections for the other servers (two NetWare & one W2K3) were no sweat. The Red Hat 5.2 box (stop laughing! it runs, and does exactly what it's supposed to do!) was a serial connection, as I couldn't come up with all the prereqs to build apcupsd for it, and I already had PowerChute 4.5.1 installed (2001?).
I was kind of wondering about the ASG (running on a Proliant DL360 G4), knowing that there wasn't really any monitoring facility available in the GUI. Sure enough, though, as soon as the USB cable snapped in, a quick glance at top showed me that upsd was indeed running. No reboot necessary. I guess the USB hotplug monitor picked it up.
Anyway, I thought I'd pass that along for the curious.
PS - I also voted for network UPS support. [;)]
