No. A license for one of the ASG Series appliances will only work on the same model of ASG Appliance; there are things implemented in the hardware that prevent the license from being migrated in the fashion you describe. I know that those things are, but since it's sensitive info, I can't share it. If it's a commercial license, and you want to move to a software per user license, you reseller should be able to work with you; I've had a customer or two that I've had to do this with before.
Thanks. We are looking at getting astaro for office and was just curious about what happens if there is a hardware failure after the warranty period. I am sure that i can get extended warranty. Since this is a custom built box I don't think i would be able to fiddle around with hardware, say plug in a network card if one port fails.
If uptime is paramount, then I believe the new pricing model allows you to buy a second appliance and run it in "Hot-Standby" (Active/Passive) mode with no additional licensing costs. The Astaro appliances have no customer-replaceable parts. You can ask Astaro what the replacement time would be in your location if you purchase Premium Support.
Bob is correct, if you purchase a second ASG hardware appliance, you automatically get HA capability; the new licensing model also applies the free HA (failover) functionality to Software licenses.
if you check under Management -> High Availability and there is no information about licensing you can start HA(active-passive) with your home license.
